Rules, Guidelines & 70% Fund Policy
gitrank.lol is built on strict verification, transparent financial splits, and open-source crowdfunding integrity.
Rule 1: Mandatory GitHub REST API Validation
Every submitted repository is validated in real-time against official GitHub REST API endpoints (api.github.com/repos/owner/repo). Non-existent, mistyped, or 404 repositories cannot be listed or bidded on.
Rule 2: 70% Maintainer Fund & Stripe Net Calculation
70% of net profits (calculated after Stripe processing fees and essential server maintenance costs) are allocated to the repository maintainer fund:
- Approved Official Channels Only: Maintainer payouts are processed exclusively through verified platforms: GitHub Sponsors (
github.com/sponsors/owner) or Open Collective. Direct unverified third-party transfers are prohibited. - Dispute & Chargeback Holding Window: To protect maintainers and the platform against Stripe chargebacks, funds are subject to a standard 14–30 day dispute clearing period prior to disbursement.
- 90-Day Unclaimed Escrow Window: Unclaimed funds remain in escrow for 90 days. If unclaimed after 90 days, funds auto-roll into the general Open Source Creator Fund to support active maintainer projects.
Rule 3: Content Safety & Zero Malware Tolerance
gitrank.lol strictly enforces safety guidelines. Repositories containing malicious code, phishing scripts, hate speech, or illegal content will be permanently banned and removed from the leaderboard without refund.
Rule 4: Domain Category Anti-Abuse Limit
Every repository submitted is listed globally on the All Repos leaderboard and is assigned 1 Primary Domain Category (e.g. Hardware & Embedded, 3D, Gaming & Media, AI & Data Science). A single project cannot spam multiple niche categories simultaneously.
Rule 5: Transparent Bidding & Outbid Bumps
Bidding starts at $1 minimum. Outbids accumulate cumulatively on the target repository, and ranks re-sort instantly in real-time.
